The Cubs franchise last won the World Series in 1908,^[4]and Vedder has been a lifelong Cubs fan.^[5]The song, which fondly looks forward to the Cubs' next World Seriesvictory, was written with the encouragement of certain ChicagoCubs, most notably ErnieBanks. Although Pearl Jamvocalist EddieVedder, who was raised in Evanston, Illinois and later San Diego County, California,^[6] isclosely associated with grungemusic,^[4]he has been a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.
